OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs 3.0.0 - uploading without conversion to Google Docs :-)

OK, I just created new version 3.0.0 of OOo2GD.

This version allows you to upload documents to Google Docs without conversion...

But because OpenOffice.org extensions repository doesn't work you can download it only from my project page ;-)

New things are:
- mentioned above possibility to upload documents to Google Docs without conversion,
- working with ODG graphics, but only without conversion.

If your document will be possible to convert you will see upload document in this form:

New thing is this "Convert to Google Docs format" checkbox. If it is checked (by default it will be checked, and you can change it in configuration) OOo2GD will upload document to Google Docs with conversion to Google Docs format.
If it will be unchecked you will be able to upload document without any conversion, you will upload binary file, and will be able to download it without any conversions. This means that formatting, formulas and similar things will untouched by Google Docs.... Sounds great? ;-) But it has one big disadvantage, you cannot work with such files in Google Docs. Google Docs works for those documents as storage.

If you will try to upload something in "unconverable" format, for example ODG graphic, you will see Upload window looking like this:

Updating works as always, both with files (so those documents uploaded without conversion) and documents.

I wasn't sure what to do this evening, learning to SCWCD exam wasn't at the top of list of my desired thing to do ;-) the same learning algorithms and preparing for my Big Secret Plan ;-) So I decided to look at OOo2GD code ;-)

As a result of this looking we have new version of OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs, this time with number 2.1.1.
Most visible change is in Import Window, to now in window for Google Docs, and in window for Zoho you saw different formats of dates, now it is one format, and this format is "sortable" what should be helpful for those who run OOo2GD using Java 1.6.
This version should also fix problem with empty folder/directory for storing downloaded documents.
Another cosmetic change is the fact that from now you will not see message after successful upload/update.
Also error messages should be more informative :-)

In new version 2.1.0 of OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs three new things

• filtering by name of document in Import Window, you not need to look through all your files in Google Docs or Zoho, you simply may filter list of files by name, here sample how it works:
  
• if you are using Java 1.6 you will be able to sort rows in table with files from Google Docs/Zoho in Import Window
• configuration files will be now more *nix friendly, and will start with dot .

Nothing big today, but rather useful ;-)

First, in configuration window you may find new checkbox, for overwriting files during download.

What's for? Thanks to this you will be able to avoid downloading a lot of files with similar names, example now when you have document called "test" in Google Docs, and you try to download it several times, you will end with file test.odt, test(1).odt, test(2).odt, test(3).odt and so on.

This change will help you in using second change ;-) From now OOo2GD will try to be smart, and when you will want to export file to Google Docs it will try to find in Google Docs item with most similar name, and will set itself to update this item, you can still decide that you want to upload new item.

Last but not least change is try to reuse once obtained information, example you open import window, and use Refresh List button, next you close import window and open it again... now OOo2GD will try to use existing list of documents instead displaying empty list and making you click on refresh list. You can still use Refresh List to refresh it ;-)

Export documents to Box.net from your OpenOffice.org with OOo2GD :-)

Did you know that you may use OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs to export your documents to Box.net?

To do it you will need to use Export to WebDAV icon:



As a WebDAV server path put http://www.box.net/dav/ :



Click OK :-) During uploading you will be asked for your Box.net account login name and password, put it and click OK, you may also check "Remember Password..." field:



After uploading your file will be able on Box.net :-)

OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs 1.3 beta 1 - update documents on Google Docs

New version 1.3 beta 1 of OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs is available.

It's a beta, so it isn't ideal ;-)

GUI is rather difficult, so here short "instruction".

First choose proper icon to export file to Google Docs:



In Export to Google Docs dialog instead of text field with document name we have ComboBox, and here is main difference, if you want to upload file as new entry to Google Docs DON'T CHOOSE ANYTHING FROM LIST, you should edit name in first line:



But if you want to export your file as new revision you should choose file to update from list:



When everything is OK you should see:



And here we have screen from Google Docs with revisions of document:



Download version 1.3b1 of OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs

This version may create some unnecessary files in user directory.

Support for Zoho in OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs 1.1.0

OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs 1.1.0 is here :-) And it can work not only with Google Docs, but also with Zoho :-)

For Zoho it can export and import documents and workbooks.

In this version we have some changes in German translation, some minor cosmetic changes in Configuration dialog, we have also change in Import dialog - from now if we use Google Apps account we will not able to use "Open" on documents, only "Open via Browser" is available. Last change is because in previous versions "Open" for Google Apps accounts downloaded always documents with "Temporary Moved" text.
